A Valentines Day Tale - Our Love Story

IN case you've managed to avoid all the retail hype and the florists running around like chickens with their heads cut off.... today is St Valentines Day. And, in keeping with the general lovey-doveyness of the day i've decided to share with you all my personal love story. And Micks. Ours, if you will. And though it may not be as epic as some you might read today, its worth sharing i think.

Why? Not only because we're, like, crazy in love and stuff, but because Michael and I are an internet dating success story. I know a few of you very loyal readers know the origin of our relationship but for those who are new around these parts - Mick and I met on an internet dating site. We did the whole write a profile, hope someone likes it, find your match thing that so many others do, only instead of winding up in the basket of web dating horror stories we clicked. Big time. Our first date was lunch at a pub bistro in town.... that lasted 5 hrs. My sister actually texted me 3 times to check where i was an if i was ok. I didnt answer any of those texts because i was having too good of a time to notice them.

Me and Mick early in our relationship....

We saw each other the next day ( the rule of waiting at least 3 days be damned ) - we went to see " Watchmen " and " Gran Torino " back to back, and then went for an impromptu dinner. He rang me a few days after that and travelled 45 mins into town after a full day of work just so we could have a picnic dinner. He invited me away for the weekend to meet his brother after only 2 weeks of dating - rather than scaring me off, i said yes and had an "interesting " time at his brothers house in the middle of nowhere. I then had to go away for work for 2 weeks, during which time i racked up a mammoth phone bill because we spent every day texting each other. He picked me up from the airport when i came home and that was it - we've been inseperable ever since.

It probably bares mentioning that we fell pregnant only 6 weeks into our relationship - but, contrary to some peoples very nasty opinion, that is not why we stayed together. Mick told me only 3 weeks into our relationship that he would ask me to marry him oneday and i told him to give a few months, think about it a while, and then see how he felt. 9 months into our relationship, and at 7 months pregnant, he did ask, and i ( obviously ) accepted. Having a baby was, of course, a huge part of our relatinship by then, but we didnt just stay together because it was " the right thing to do ".

.....and at our wedding in November '11

No we stayed together, and are together still because we love each other. Even when he drives me nuts or he drinks too much and lets the neighbour shave his head at 3am .... i still love him. Even when he gets grumpy at me because i keep stressing about our new business ( because he's chillaxed like that i'm a bit anal ), or he loses his patience with Flynn... i love him. I especially love him when he lets me sleep in ( every Saturday morning! ) or when he offers to get tea so i dont have to cook. I guess, whichever way you look at it, love is the glue that holds us together, and Flynn is the very special suprise bonus of being that in love. And after 3 and bit months of marriage, i can quite happily say that our love continues to grow, and continues to create special little things.

So what about you? Do you have a love story worth sharing?

Polly Dolly - Be My Valentine?

So after posting my very own personal Polyvore sets on Thursday, i go to my reader last night to find... that Danimezza has issued this weeks Polly Dolly challenge - which was go head over to Polyvore and show us how you'd dress for your lover of choice on Valentines Day.....

Polly Dolly - Be My Valentine?

Now seeing as i'd already shown you an evening look with a red dress, i couldnt just do the same thing over - so i went with a plum coloured ( which i've always been complimented on when wearing ) dress, which is soft and floaty and girly for the imaginary Valentines dinner we would be going ( in reality, Mick and i are forgoing a dinner out on Valentines Day, and are instead going out to see Jimeon on the 19th ). I've gone with neutral heels to lengethn my (short) legs and some fun jewellery. And for some more fun, after the dinner? Lacy Elle Macpherson lingerie....

A Recap, Valentines Style

So i promised that i would make a quick recap post of what happened on my Valentines Day. To be quite honest, there isnt anything overly exciting to recap - thats not to say that i didnt enjoy the day, only that there was nothing incredibly adventurous or parade-worthy to make note of.

Mick and I exchanged gifts at 6am when Flynn woke for a feed. I had bought him a dog tag style pendant to go on a chain he already owns, and had it engraved - " With Love, Amy. 14.02.10 ". I know, i'm too sweet. What did Mick get me ?

This gorgeous little charm to go on the Pandora bracelet that he had bought for my birthday. Pretty, right ? And what was also lovely was that he told me it wasnt a charm - he was giving me a piece of his heart. Awwwwww.....

I made pancakes with banana and honey for breakfast; we took turns reading the Sunday papers while i fed the baby; we just lolled around the house and took it easy until mid afternoon, when it came time for me to start gettng ready for dinner. I specify " me " because i had to spread the whole " getting ready " thing out over an hour or two: i had to shower, shave my legs, blow dry and straighten my hair and do my makeup. Which is not too bad except that i had to have a half hour break somewhere in there to breastfeed Flynn, before he got too cranky at Daddy for not having any boobies. But i got prettified ( unfortunately we werent clever enough to take any photos ) and i must say it felt great to get all dolled up again without having to contend with a huge belly.

We dropped Flynn off at my parents place and Mick and I had a nice dinner at a semi-fancy resturant. I got the chicken, stuffed with cheese and bacon, wrapped in filo pastry; he had the nutcrusted barramundi; and we both indulged in dessert. We werent out long - Mick, especially, missed his " little mate " - but it was nice to have an hour and half to be a couple again, not just " parents ".

I know its kind of late, but i hope the rest of you had a great Valentines Day, whether you were coupled up for the day or not!

Thinking Happy, Week 3 - Happy Valentines Day!

Ok, so its actually the day before Valentines Day but i'm getting in early while i have both my children ( the baby-child AND the man-child ) asleep . Once again, i'm joining in Good Golly Miss Holly!'s " Operation Think Happy " by making a list of 7 things that have made me happy or put a smile on my face this week - feel free to join if you like!
1. Being healthy - both Flynn and I had our 6 week post-natal check ups this week and i'm happy to say we're both healthy and problem free!
2. Having time to myself - I left Flynn at Grandma and Poppy's house ( thats my mum and dad ) while i went to get a haircut. Its the first time i've had in 7 weeks to get and out and about by myself - it was so nice just to have an hour and half just doing something for me. Of course i wondered what Flynn was doing and went straight to him and smothered him with kisses when i got back.... but in the moment, it made me happy to have that little ounce of freedom.
3. An early morning snuggle - with everybody! Now before you let your imagination run away with you, i'm taking me, Mick and Flynn, all curled up together this morning. I had Flynn curled into my chest trying to get him back to sleep and then Mick rolled over and hugged me into him. It was just a blissful little moment where i realised what a beautiful little family we've made....
4. Blog posts - not mine: yours! I've read so many interesting posts this week.... keep up the good work people!
5. My haircut - ok so i've already mentioned that being able to get out and go for a haircut made me happy, but the haircut itself has put a smile on my face too. I've had about 6cm/2 inches-ish taken off so i now have a shoulder length bob type thing happening. I have a natural wave in my hair which, with the new length, looks much more bouncy and less weighty. Noice!
6. A full nights sleep - Flynn had one night of what is called ' sleeping through ' - that is, he slept from 10:30pm til 6:30am, which means Mummy got almost a full 8 hrs. Might not sound like much but it made my day!
7. Facebook friend requests - i had one from a blog buddy ( hey Paula! ) and one from a girl i went to high school with. She still lives here in town but - as you do - we lost touch, so it was nice to get a friend request and be able to catch up a bit. I've also realised that there are at least 5 girls from my class ( including me ) who still live here who have babies 1 yr old or younger. Maybe i should try and start a mummas group with them?
So there you be - with Valentines Day up tomorrow hopefully i will have some more highlights for next weeks list.... and a specific Valentines Day recap post for you aswell!

More Cosmic Weirdness

Oh Universe - what in the boojesus kind of game are you playing ?

Today is Friday the 13th of February ( ooh, Friday the 13th...spooky ), the day before Valentines Day, and i had a single red rose delivered to me at work. Guess who it was from ? Average Joe. What ?!? I went one one date with him, 3 months ago, and he send me a rose for Valentines Day. I also had an email from him earlier in the week, saying he would love nothing more than to take me out again. 3 months after our first date.
And did i mention he sent me a rose ?

Don't get me wrong - i thought it was sweet, and very flattering, and i sent him a message telling me so. But what am i supposed to do now ? I'm 90% sure i still dont want to go on a second date with him, but now that he's forked out for a rose, on the most expensive flower-sending day of the year, i feel kind of obliged to see him again. But so much has time has passed, and various unanswered emails have been exchanged between both of us ( meaning i have sent a few he didnt answer aswell ).... a date now would be majorly weird, wouldnt it ? There'd be crazy awkward pauses in conversation, and eventually he'd want an expanded explanation of what i really thought of our first date. I dont want to put myself through that do I ? But then again, the poor guy was apparently kind-of, sort-of crushing on me big-time. Maybe i owe him another chance ? Maybe he's seeing something i just cant.

But here is the second part of my dilemma: i have recently started communicating with another guy, still kind of tentatively, but he seems really sweet. Should i now put off meeting up with this guy for a casual coffee or something, just so i can give Average Joe a second chance ? And why is it this all becoming weirdly complicated on the eve of Valentines Day, when i was perfecly resigned to staying in by myself and watching a Clive Owen film ( mmm...Clive Owen... )?

So i guess it all comes down to a handful of questions :
1. What is the Universe playing at ?
2. What should i do about Average Joe ?
3. Is Average Joe a stalker ?

Help me people, this is so not within the realm of my experience!
